The entire world has been experiencing a tremendous crisis due to the COVID19 pandemic. We found an old video about a TED talk given by Bill Gates back in 2015. Watch it. It is incredible — back then it was thought that he was crazy, turns out he was right. Could we have avoided it?

Markets are still hectic. We’ve seen “circuit breakers” triggered on Wall Street several times recently and US markets have given up all of its gains since 2016.

European markets continued to decline despite the ECB allocating 750 billion euros to battle the effects of the pandemic. At the same time, oil crashed to an 18-year low as a result of a price war between Saudi Arabia, Russia and the US, and a general decline in global demand caused by the pandemic.

Most likely there are three possible scenarios: The first is optimistic — we will see the virus contained within a few months and we will return to normal by the second half of 2020.

The second is pessimistic — the crisis will go on for a couple of quarters and we may see a deep recession with tremendous negative effects across all sectors and the entire world, triggering a financial crisis on top of the health and economic crisis unfolding.

The third scenario, which is most likely given the development in China, is this: Restrictions will be held in place until summer and then, once the virus is semi-contained, those who are not part of the vulnerable groups will gradually return to normal life and we will begin to see an economic recovery in Q4.

We must have faith in the resilience of the global economy, and more importantly, the human spirit.
